Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla.—Host Webber International made all three sets competitive, but the Fire volleyball team did enough in all three sets to come away with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 victory to move to 2-1 in Sun Conference play.
In the first set, the Fire found themselves in a 6-2 deficit, but took advantage of some Webber errors to take a 13-12 lead and force a Warrior timeout. A kill by Uche Kojo and a pair of Webber attack errors built the Fire advantage to 16-12, and forced another timeout. The lead expanded to eight at 24-16, but the Warriors made it interesting with a pair of kills and an ace, but a kill by
Victoria Trueheart ended the set.
Neither team led by more than three in the second set. Leading 18-17, the Fire used a 4-1 run to build a 22-18 advantage. The set ended with a kill and an ace from Trueheart.
The third set was played close as well until the Fire rattled off five straight points, two on kills by
Toree Anderson, a kill from Trueheart, and an ace from
Alyssa Prescott to make it 14-8 SEU. After a Webber timeout, the Warriors went on a 4-1 run to make it 21-20 Fire, but the guests were able to win four of the final seven rallies to claim the match.
Trueheart finished the night with a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. She also assisted on a block.
Lydia Rooth also had a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs.
Anderson was also in double figures with 10 kills and an incredible .500 attacking percentage.
Lindsay Fleming was the top distributor with a match-best 36 assists, and also had six digs.
The Fire return to action on Thursday on the road at Warner at 7 p.m.
