Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—In its first Sun Conference match of the season, the Fire volleyball squad fell to preseason favorite St. Thomas 3-1 in a tightly contested match.
After dropping the first set 25-22, the Fire recorded a 25-22 win of their own. In the third set, the Bobcats won convincingly 25-12, hitting .517 with 16 kills and just one error.
The final set was tied at 20, but four kills and an attack error gave the Bobcats the win.
I was proud of how the girls played tonight against a quality opponent," said coach
Audrey Gilbert. "It lets us see what we need to do for the rest of the season."
Lydia Rooth led the offense with 13 kills and a .195 hitting percentage. She also added 12 digs.
Lindsey Fleming assisted on 32 of SEU's 41 total kills.
The Bobcats had 71 total kills and a .301 hitting percentage.
The Fire return to action on Saturday at home when they host Florida Memorial at 3 p.m.
