BABSON PARK, Fla. -- SEU Women's Soccer kept its perfect start to the season intact, earning a 4-2 road victory over Webber International on Wednesday afternoon.
Sara Irurozki stole the show, recording her a hat trick and leading the Fire to their second straight win to open the season.
Irurozki made an immediate impact, scoring just 1:46 into the match to put Southeastern in front early. Webber International managed to level the score in the 35th minute on a goal from Melissa Del Valle, and the teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
The Fire dominated possession and opportunities in the second half, and Irurozki put Southeastern back in control in the 65th minute with her second goal of the day. She completed the hat trick less than 10 minutes later, giving SEU a 3-1 lead. The hat trick marks the first by a Southeastern player since
Katie Carnes scored three against Florida Memorial on Oct. 25, 2023.
Rebecca Laface added an insurance goal in the 81st minute, capping a strong day for the Fire offense, which finished with 19 total shots and 11 on target. Southeastern applied steady pressure throughout, forcing Webber goalkeeper Francesca Magnotti into seven saves.
The Warriors managed a late goal in the 87th minute, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Fire, who improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2022 and only the third time since 2019. Southeastern's 11 goals through the first two matches are the most to open a season since the team also netted 11 in the opening two games of the 2021 campaign.
Irurozki now has five goals in two games, matching the blistering pace set by Naira Lopez at the start of the 2020 season. Laface has also scored in back-to-back matches, giving the Fire multiple offensive weapons early in the year.
Goalkeepers
Sofia Diaz and
Madison Songer split time in net for Southeastern, combining for two saves while the Fire's back line limited Webber to just nine total shots, only four of which were on target.
Southeastern will look to keep its winning streak alive on the road next Wednesday, September 3, when the Fire travel to face No. 22 Truett McConnell.
