JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Sophomore Spencer McCranie sparked the Southeastern University men's golf team on Monday, posting the Fire's lone sub-70 round of the tournament to lead SEU on Day Two of the Sun Conference Championships.
After finishing third among SEU players in Sunday's opening round, McCranie surged up the leader board with a 3-under-par 69. Paired with his first-round 74, McCranie's 143 total places him tied for sixth overall heading into the final day of competition.
As a team, Southeastern sits in sixth place with a two-day score of 591 (+15) after carding a 297 on Monday. Keiser University widened its lead at the top of the standings, firing a tournament-best 280 to move to 11-under-par (558). Coastal Georgia (573) and St. Thomas (574) round out the top three.
Individually, Keiser's Adam Buchanan maintained his lead at 7-under (130), two strokes ahead of Coastal Georgia's Lee Smith (-5) and four clear of Anthony Amoroso (St. Thomas) and Ty Kaufman (Ave Maria) at -3.
Zach Shaw also provided a solid showing for the Fire, improving on his opening-round 73 with an even-par 72 to sit tied for 12th at 1-over (145).
Marley Read, who opened with a 1-under 71, slipped to a 79 on Monday but remains in the top half of the field, tied for 27th at +6 (150).
Adam Crowley improved by one stroke from Sunday with a 77 and stands 36th overall (+11/155). Freshman Connor Williams rounds out the SEU lineup, posting an 81 on Monday for a two-day total of 157 (+13), tied for 40th.
Women's Team Holds Steady in Fourth After Day Two
On the women's side, Southeastern maintained its fourth-place position in the Sun Conference Women's Golf Championship standings after a steady second round.
Alejandra Cuellar and Maria Stephens led the Fire on Monday, each carding a 77 to keep SEU in contention. Cuellar, who led the team after Day One, sits tied for ninth overall at 8-over (152). Stephens improved her opening-round score by one stroke and now stands 14th at 11-over (155).
SEU posted a team score of 315 for the second consecutive day, holding a two-round total of 622 (+46) in the 8-team field. Keiser University leads by a wide margin at 9-over (585), with SCAD-Savannah (602) and Coastal Georgia (609) chasing.
Keiser golfers also dominate the individual leader board, occupying the top four spots, with Carolin Alblas (145, +1) holding a one-shot lead over teammates Zigi Gao and Mohea Mansbendel (+2, 146).
Madelyn Campbell shot an 80 on Monday to move to +13 (157) and remains in the top 20. Freshman Mariana Espinosa carded an 82 and is tied for 17th at +15 (159), while Marlie Smit is tied for 20th at +16 (160) after an 81 in the second round.
The Fire look to make a final push up the leader board as the Sun Conference Championships conclude on Tuesday.
