Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Southeastern University fell to NAIA No. 1-ranked Keiser University, 4-0, in the Sun Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Friday morning.
The Seahawks registered identical 6-2 victories in the second and third doubles matches to take an early 1-0 team lead. Keiser then limited SEU to just seven total games across the first three finished singles matches to secure the championship.
For the second straight year, Keiser claimed the conference title over SEU (18-7).
The Fire, however, hold an impressive 8-4 mark against ranked opponents this season. Keiser also defeated SEU in the regular season meeting on March 22 by the same 4-0 final.
In the three unfinished singles matches, Irene Parigi captured the first set in her third singles matchup, 6-4, before Keiser's Eloise de Mooij rallied to a 5-0 lead in the second set when play was halted.
In doubles play, Keiser earned wins at both the second and third spots with 6-2 finals. Mooij and Isabella Mercante defeated Alessia Ciampi and Neleah Neiberline, while Liza Velykorodna and Vanja Vidanovic got past Isabella Bolivar Garces and Parigi.
Cato Tangkau secured the Seahawks' second team point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bolivar Garces at second singles.
Violet Apisah added the third point with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Carlotta Nonnis Marzano at the top singles spot.
Neiberline battled in her fourth singles match but ultimately fell to Mercante, winning two games in each set.
In the other two unfinished matches, Irene Lopez played a competitive first set before dropping it 6-4 to Velykorodna and trailed 4-0 in the second when play was stopped at fifth singles. At sixth singles, Ciampi dropped the first set 6-3 and trailed 4-1 in the second set against Vidanovic.
Meanwhile, in top doubles, Marzano and Lopez pushed Keiser's Violet and Patricia Apisah but trailed 5-2 when the match was halted.
Southeastern will now head to the NAIA National Tournament, and await the announcement of bids and seeding on April 29th.
