DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Fire completed back-to-back days opening the outdoor season on Saturday. Southeastern University claimed five different events by six different Fire athletes at the Embry-Riddle Track & Field Classic.
The SEU women captured five of the seven first places – MarieAnge Moussignac (shot put), Alyssa Morley (triple jump), Areeyanna Bonds (400 hurdles), Aubrey Sellers (pole vault) and Jadyn Deverna (5k). Isaiah Burns won the men's high jump and Felipe Ledesma won the 3,000-meter Steeplechase.
Both Morley and Moussignac not only won the one women's event, but they also placed in the top four in other events. Along with winning the triple jump at 11.25 meters, Moreley finished second in the long jump (5.37m).
Moussignac took the shot put with a throw of 12.69 meters. She also threw 41.47 meters for third in the hammer throw and 37.14 meters in the discus for fourth.
Bonds ran the 400-meter hurdles with the top time of 1:05.56, while Deverna was first in the 5,000 meters (18:35.10). Sellers tied for first in the pole vault at a height of 3.01 meters.
For the men, Burns leaped 1.85 meters for first place in the high jump, while he was sixth in the long jump (6.50m).
Ledesma led SEU as the first runner to cross the 3,000-meter Steeplechase line in 10:20.32, while his teammates Luke Callery and Tobias Dickerson were second (10:30.55) and third (10:53.08).
In the men's field side, Cody Rand and Jeremiah Stewart placed in two events apiece. Rand was fifth in the hammer throw at 43.25 meters and sixth in the shot put (12.96m). Stewart jumped to third (12.61m) in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump (1.70m).
For the women's 3,000-meter Steeplechase, the Fire's Sophie Robinson and Izzy Colebank ran back-to-back in second (12:40.13) and third (13:05.96). Ashlin Price was behind Deverna in third for the 5,000 meters in 19:14.83, while Talea Gifford took third (15.39) in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the long jump (5.13m).
Emma Terry made her mark in four events, while both Baylie Hartman and Allison Craig did it in three. Terry threw to second in the shot put (12.60m), third in the javelin (36.87m), sixth in the hammer throw (36.40m) and seventh for the discus (33.52m).
Hartman garnered fifth in both the hammer throw (37.88m) and discus (34.97m), while she was eighth for the shot put (10.10m). Craig's top finish was in the shot put where she was fourth (12.04m), sixth in the discus (33.88m) and seven for the hammer throw (35.50m).
In the pole vault, Amari Graham and Sophia Bou completed the SEU contingent with a third-place height (2.56m) and seventh (2.41m).
SEU will take a week off from competition before oompeting in the USF Bulls Invitationals on March 21-22.
