Fire Shine with 18 First Place Finishes in Dual Action

SAVANNAH, Ga. & TAMPA, Fla. – The Fire excelled with 46 top three finishes on a busy Saturday. Southeastern University claimed 18 first-place finishes in a split squad effort between the Savannah State Orange and Blue Invite and the University of Tampa Spartan Relays.

MarieAnge Moussignac recorded the trifecta of first places for the women's shot put, discus, and hammer throw in Savannah, while the SEU men had eight individuals win one event apiece for the day.

Staying on the women's side, Moussignac took a third of the first place finishes. The junior threw 12.20 meters for the shot put win and then she went on for the best discus throw of 126.1 and finished the trio in the hammer throw distance of 151.0. Along with Moussignac in the Savannah field events, Alyssa Morley reached the lone NAIA 'B' Qualifying Standard of the team with a 11.78 leap for first in the triple jump.

Emma Terry fired the javelin 37.44 meters and Emily Powelson jumped 5.50 meters in the long jumps as the final two field first places.

In Tampa, Ashlyn Poulin led SEU in the top four places of the 5K Walk as she crossed the finish line first in 27:05.31. Talea Gifford hurdled her way to first in the 100-meter hurdles (15.15), while Jaa'Ln McBride captured the 800 meters (2:19.11). Completing the 10 first place finishers, the Fire's 4x800-meter relay of Jillian Blaser, McBride, Natalie Rohm and Maci Mills took the baton over the line in 9:25.81, 31 seconds better than the runner-up team.

At the Spartan Relays, Kodi Quimby garnered the top 5K Walk placing as the first of the Fire competitors taking the five spots in 28:06.68. Cameron Alamia and Malik Blunt won the sprint events for the 100 meters (10.74) and 200 meters (21.79). James Williamson III added the final track SEU win in a time of 49.08 for the 400 meters.

In the Savannah field events, SEU produced the other four first finishes when Jeremiah Rutledge leaped 6-6 in the high jump, Isaiah Burns jumped 6.75 meters in the long jump, Cody Rand threw 128-11 for the hammer throw title and Lucky Baldwin fired off a javelin throw of 47.37 meters.

Along with her winning javelin throw, Terry added a second place in both the shot put (11.84m) and hammer throw (137-1) events. Baylie Hartman was the runner-up finisher for the discus (121-0) and she took third in both the shot put (9.75m) and hammer throw (118-4). Morley jumped 5.25 meters for second in the long jump to go with her triple jump title.

Back on the track, Irmiris Mendez ran to second in the 200 meters (24.89) and third in the 400 meters (57.71). Grace Coggins added a second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.25) and Marlee Irvin was second in the 5K Walk (28:33.83).

Going with his men's hammer throw title, Rand was second in the discus (129-3), fourth in the shot put (12.03m) and sixth in the javelin (35.50m). Burns posted the second-best high jump effort (6-4) and sixth in the triple jump (13.00m) to go with first in the long jump. Jeremiah Stewart had the other field second place in the javelin (46.40m).

TJ Sanders was right behind Quimby in the 5K Walk with a time of 30:50.79. Jacoreyus Demps raced to second in the 200 meters (22.25) and fifth in the 100 meters (11.17).

Completing the second places, the SEU 4x800-meter relay of Dubin, Noah Joos, Tobias Dickerson and Ethan Campbell finished in 7:59.36.

SEU will split its efforts again next weekend on Friday and Saturday (April 4-5) between the Florida Relays and Embry-Riddle Running Elements Invitational.
