Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla. – Two matches, two different levels of competition. Southeastern University split a pair of women's tennis matches with a 7-0 shutout over Oglethorpe University before falling to NCAA DI Bucknell, 4-0, in the afternoon match-up.
SEU set the tone in the morning match when Irene Lopez and Chloe Do Lago did not give up a game (6-0) at top doubles over Oglethorpe's Maddie Nolen/Taylor Glover. Only minutes later, the Fire claimed the doubles point when Faith Erickson and Isabelle Buhain eased past Abigail Hudson and Apsana Rai pair by a 6-1 score.
The Fire kept the momentum and gave up only two games over the entire six singles matchups. Four SEU players of top singles Irene Parigi, Alessia Ciampi, Isabella Forcella and Erickson swept each of their bouts by identical finals, 6-0 and 6-0. Pairigi took care of Nolen, Ciampi over Glover at second, Forcella took the fourth spot over Karma Lopez and Erickson prevailed past Rai.
At third singles, Do Lago, and sixth-position, Buhain, both players gave up a single game with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Do Lago bested Elsevier and Buhain defeated Hudson.
In the second match of the day. Bucknell started strong with a doubles win at number one, as Whitney King/Abby Platt beat the Fire's Isabella Bolivar Garces/Parigi (6-2) and third doubles of Carolina Marcus/Riley Jennings beat the duo of Lopez/Do Lago (6-3).
Parigi, Ciampi, and Lopez were each up a set in the third, fourth and fifth singles matches, but none finished their matches when the Bison wrapped things up as a team.
Bucknell's Jennings won the sixth singles over Do Lago (6-2, 6-2) and Platt claimed the second singles meeting with Neiberline by the same 6-2, 6-2 final. The DI visitors closed out the match as King took the one singles match by a 6-1 and 7-5 final.
The Fire return to action tomorrow when they host Grace College (Ind.) starting at 1 p.m. at Beerman Tennis Complex.
