Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire are starting to gain momentum. Southeastern claimed the first four matches to defeat Ottawa University (Ariz.), 4-0, in women's tennis action today.
Irene Lopez accounted for two of the Fire's four wins of the day. At sixth singles, Lopez had a quick matchup with Ottawa's Cassidy Clark, winning 6-1, 6-2. Lopez teamed with Carlotta Nonnis Marzano in the top doubles bout against Katherin Busani/Martina Antich for a 6-3 win.
SEU (6-2) won its fourth match in a row and registered a shut out for the second time this week. In their last three contests, the Fire have outscored their opponents by a 17-1 margin.
In second doubles, Isabella Bolivar Garces and Irene Parigi put up the first SEU point in a quick 6-1 win over the pair of Michelle Pugh/Antonia Kostoff.
Behind the day's largest margin of victory, Alessia Ciampi won the first finishing singles match, in the fifth seed, over Kostoff with scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Neleah Neiberline registered the final SEU point needed to win the match with a 6-2, 6-3 third singles win over Pugh.
SEU was leading in the other three singles matches, which did not finish.
Starting at the top singles, Nonnis Marzano was leading Busani (6-3, 4-3), while Bolivar Garces held a 6-4, 5-2 advantage over Antich in the second spot. Parigi won the first fourth singles set (6-3) and took the first game of the second set over Quezada.
SEU will take the next two days off before they host Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon. First serve in doubles is set for 1 p.m.
