Fire Have No Problem with Warner

LAKELANDFla. – The Fire put together a second win in as many days on Wednesday. Southeastern University recorded its second shutout this week and it took down Warner University, 4-0, in men's tennis action.

The top three Fire players of Piero Fernandez, Diego Menendez and Gonzalo Fernandez led the way and took part in each of the four wins of the match.

Piero Fernandez and Menendez opened the afternoon with a 6-1 top doubles victory against Warner's Carlos Quinones and Enzo Barauna. Gonzalo Fernandez teamed with Javier Gallego for an identical, 6-1, win over the Royals' Arthur Fernandes and Diego Pessoa for the team doubles point.

SEU (3-0) posted its second shutout in two days after it blanked Davenport University, 7-0, Tuesday.

Gonzalo carried his momentum over into the first finished singles match-up, at the sixth spot, 6-2 and 6-1 over Julio Infante.

Menendez was right behind Gonzalo as he also only gave up three games in two sets. Menendez won the second singles over Warner's Luis Rodriguez (6-1 and 6-2).

Piero Fernandez finished the two teams' day in the top singles spot via 6-3 and 6-3 scores over Quinones.

Two of the other Fire individuals – Gallego and Mark Griffin – were all winning, but they had their matches left unfinished. Gallego led 6-4 and 3-2 against Fernandes and Griffin held a 6-4 and 5-0 advantage over Pessoa.

At fourth singles, Leonardo Chiari battled back and tied his match (4-6 and 6-1) versus Barauna.

In third doubles, SEU's Sam Reeder and Gustavo Rubio had their matchup with Warner's Niklas Huth/Nikhil Mittal stopped tied at 3-3.

SEU will have a couple days off before hosting Ottawa University (Ariz.) on Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m.
