Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The Fire came back strong on the second day. Southeastern University rebounded from a close Friday loss and shut out No. 18 William Woods University, 4-0, at the ITA NAIA National Duals.
The Fire took the doubles point, before they claimed the singles matches in the third, fourth and fifth matchups for all they needed to clinch the win. Both Isabella Bolivar Garces and Alessia Ciampi paced the Fire as part of a doubles win and each won their singles matchup.
With the win, SEU moves on to the fifth place match tomorrow morning against No. 5 Middle Georgia State. First serve is at 9 a.m.
Ciampi and Martina Picardi teamed for a 6-0 second-doubles win over the Owls' Sophia Hausner and Kristina Dimtrijevic. At third doubles, Bolivar Garces and Neleah Neiberline took care of William Woods' Chloe Hecker and Samya Sikand by a 6-3 final.
Bolivar Garces and Ciampi also posted their second wins of the day in the Fire winning cause in the singles matches. Bolivar Garces recorded identical 6-2 and 6-2 third singles totals over Dimtrijevic. Ciampi had an even more dominant time in the fifth with back-to-back 6-0 and 6-0 final over Hausner.
Irene Parigi got the clinching SEU win needed at fourth singles. She defeated Sikand of the Owls by a 6-1 and 6-3 final.
The nationally-ranked singles match at the top flight did not get a chance to finish. No. 13 Hannah Lindeboom of William Woods edged SEU's No. 23 Carlotta Nonnis Marzano 7-6 in the first set and held a 1-0 score in the second when SEU clinched the match.
