No. 24 Fire Strike Late to Top No. 11 SCAD

Vogel’s 89th-minute goal lifts Southeastern to 2–1 win over defending NAIA Champions

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. -- The 24th-ranked SEU Women's Soccer team delivered a composed and determined performance on Wednesday night, earning a 2–1 road victory over No. 11 SCAD-Savannah. It was a strong response for the Fire after a narrow setback at Florida Memorial on Saturday and marked their second win over a ranked opponent this season.

The opening half was evenly contested as both sides battled for control through midfield. Southeastern's buildup play generated several promising looks, the best coming just before halftime when an in-swinging corner from Emily Fux in the 45th minute curled directly toward goal and was punched off the line by SCAD keeper Saga Bryntesson. The rebound fell into traffic, and Jenna Maiorino's follow-up effort went just wide as the teams went to the break scoreless.

Southeastern wasted little time breaking through after the restart. In the 50th minute, Carmen Garcia Llanes played a direct ball that Sara Irurozki ran onto and slid past a charging keeper from the top of the penalty area and into the net for her seventh goal of the season. SCAD managed to equalize in the 79th minute, but the Fire maintained their attacking intent and continued to create pressure late.

With less than a minute remaining, Ariadna Lozano served a cross from the right side that Danielle Vogel redirected into the back of the net to lift Southeastern to a thrilling 2–1 victory.

Goalkeeper Sofia Diaz made four saves in the win, while Irurozki led the attack with four shots—three on target. Southeastern improved to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1 in Sun Conference play, moving to 2-1-1 this season against nationally ranked opponents.

The Fire will return home on Saturday to host Webber International University at 11 a.m. at the SEU Soccer Field in Lakeland, looking to build on the momentum from their top-25 road win.
