Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire's ranked-opponent run continued on Saturday afternoon. Tied at half, No. 17 Savannah College of Art & Design found the net twice in the final 25 minutes and slipped past Southeastern University, 3-1, in Sun Conference women's soccer action.
Giving up early goals has been an issue for the Fire this season, and Saturday was no different, as SCAD's Sydney Chura scored just 8:47 into the game. However, SEU's Ariadna Lozano answered just 6:15 later at 15:02 for a 1-1 tie. After Gaia Lacuzzi fired a shot on the SCAD net and it was turned away at 62:07, the visitors answered three minutes later with what would be the game-winning score. The Bees added a third goal with less than 10 minutes left and saved the Fire's Katie Curnes shot on goal 20 seconds later.
For the sixth time in seven matches this fall, SEU (1-5-1/0-3 SUN) lined up against a ranked opponent. SCAD (No. 17) improves to 6-1-1 and 2-0 in SUN play. The two league foes battled to a 2-2 tie last Oct. 28, also in Lakeland.
Goalie Madison Songer stopped four SCAD shots on the seven attempts she faced over 90 minutes.
The Fire return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Lake Wales, Fla, to take on Warner University at 7 p.m..
