MARION, Ind.—Southeastern picked up two event titles during the final day of competition at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
James Williamson III was the meet's Most Outstanding Performer, running the opening leg of the victorious 4x100 Relay team, earning All-America honors in the 100 Meters, and was the champion in the 200 Meters.
Davien Worrels took the baton across the finish line to help Southeastern win the 4x100 Relay for the first time in program history with a school-record time of 39.79.
Joseph Taylor and
Cameron Alamia ran the second and third legs, respectively.
"We looked at the film and saw we ran on each other a bit," said coach Nick Dodson of the relay that posted 40.06 on Wednesday. "They got it around but this time they got it in stride on the hand off. Joe to Cam's leg was the winner to set Davien up."
The top four in the field all posted 40 seconds or better.
An hour later, Williamson III was eighth in the 100 Meters in 10.3 seconds. One more hour later, Williamson III claimed another national title.
"I was worried and nervous this morning, but all I did was pray and trust and believe in God," said Williamson III.
The junior was just off the meet record time in the prelims on Wednesday and cruised to the title in 20.49 on Friday.
Cameron Guadiano picked up a point in the 110 Hurdles by taking eighth in a time of 14.29 to earn All-America honors.
Worrels was ninth in the 200 Meters in 21.56 and also ran the opening leg of the ninth-place 4x400 Relay with Williamson III, Guadiano, and Taylor in 3:15.8.
John Perez-Dunn started the day with a 14
th-place finish in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase in a time of 9:44.
Freshman
Kevin Parker was 19
th in the Pole Vault, clearing the first two heights of 4.55 and 4.65 meters.
