Men's Track & Field Donnie Smith

Track Sweeps Outdoor Titles for Fifth Time

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—The names may be different, but the results were not.
 
Since Southeastern started track and field in 2019, it has won every Sun Conference Championship it has competed in.
 
The men's team wrapped up its second Triple Crown by winning the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track Sun Conference championships, posting 272 points over the weekend. The women's team scored 286 points and won the title by 125 points.
 
"To win five in a row, both the men and women is a huge accomplishment," said coach Nick Dodson. "We graduated that pioneer group but this group here has started their own legacy and we're really excited for them and their progression."
 
On the women's side, Irmiris Mendez was the Most Valuable Performer with 31 total points. She took first in the 100 Hurdles in 14.31 and was the anchor of the victorious 4x100 and 4x400 Relays. Mendez also posted a season-best NAIA 'B' Standard time of 11.89 in the 100 Meter prelims, finishing second in the finals. She was also the runner-up in the 200 Meters behind teammate Oluwafikayomi Lawrence.
 
Lawrence also took gold in the 400 Meters in 56.93 seconds, and joined Mendez on the 4x100 and 4x400 Relays.
 
Aoife Mahony was first in the 1500 in 4:51.18 and Grace Feder was third in 4:55.48. Sarah Foreman added first-place finishes in the 5,000 meters in 18:44 and 10,000 in 38:38.
 
Ashlyn Poulin and Marlee Irvin were the top two in the Race Walk with Poulin posting 26:20,85 and Irvin with a 'B' Standard season-best time of 29:22.10. Sophie Robinson and Natalie Rohm were tops in the Steeplechase in 12:19 and 12:34, respectively.
 
Chelsee Martino was first in the 400 Hurles in a season-best 'A' Standard time of 1:03.37. She was also part of the 4x400 Relay with Ariyah Smith. Smith was also part of the 4x100.
 
Ar'Briel Scott was third in the 100 Hurdles to lock up the final spot on the all-conference team and also was on the 4x100 relay.
 
In the field events, Aubrey Sellers and Amari Graham earned all-conference honors with second and third place finishes by clearing 2.9 meters and 2.45 meters, respectively.
 
MarieAnge Moussignac was the runner-up in the Shot Put at 12.49 meters and won the Hammer with a best toss of 43.11 meters. Emma Terry took third in the Hammer at 39.25 meters.
 
Baylie Hartman was third in the Discus at 35.84 meters.  
The Fire also swept the podium in the Heptathlon with Chelsee Martino first with 3644 points, Natalie Rohm second at 3149, and Jessica Brown third at 3045.
 
John Perez-Dunn was the Most Valuable Performer on the men's side with 30 points. The grad student won the 5000 Meters in 16:02, the 10,000 in 33:15, and the Steeplechase in 9:44.66.
 
Joshua Shields was the runner-up in the 5000 in 33:37.
 
James Williamson III won the 100 Meters in a season-best time of 10.36 which is ninth-fastest nationally this season. Williamson was also tops in the 200 Meters in 21.51.
 
In the 400 Meters, Joseph Taylor and Davien Worrels went 1-2 with Taylor posting 47.29 and Worrels 47.63.
 
Jonathan Fitzgerald earned All-Sun Conference honors in the 1500 with a third-place finish in 4:10.21.  
 
TJ Sanders posted a season-best 'B' Standard time of 25:43 to win the Race Walk with Jaden Simpson second in 29:24.
 
In the hurdles, Cameron Guadiano was first in the 110 in 14.55 and second in a season-best time of 52.52 in the 400. Kevin Davis Jr. also posted a season-best time of 53.77 to take third.
 
The Fire had the first place 4x100 and 4x400 Relays with Williamson, Taylor, Cameron Alamia, and Worrels clocking 40.49 in the 4x100 and Worrels, Williamson, Guadiano, and Taylor taking the 4x400.
 
The 4x800 team of Andrew Carrera, Tyler Moody, Jaden Simpson, and Spencer Louis was third in 8:45.31.
 
Kevin Parker took third in the Pole Vault by clearing 4.25 meters and Taylor took bronze in the Long Jump at 6.83 meters. Joshuwa Valentin was the runner-up in the Triple Jump at 13.73 meters.
 
In the throws, Cameron Gebers was the runner-up in the Shot Put with a best toss of 14.67 meters, and Cody Rand took third in the Discus at 40.70 meters.
 
Vincent Lopez was the top Decathlete with a total of 5221 points. Jeremiah Stewart was third at 4422.
