NEWNAN, Ga.—The Fire men's golf team scored its third win of the season by taking the title at the Skyhawk Invitational and Newnan Country Club.
Southeastern won the 54-hole event by one stroke over conference rival Webber International. The Fire held a 12-stroke lead after Monday's first two rounds, thanks largely due to an even-par team score of 288 in the second. The Warriors made up 11 shots with SEU posting a 304 on Tuesday and Webber a 293.
As a team, the Fire played the Par 5 holes under par at 4.98 and led the tournament in birdies at 34.
Matthew Soucinek was the top finisher on the roster in fifth. After a three-over 75 in the first round, Soucinek carded four birdies to register a two-under 70 in the second round and closed with a 77 on Tuesday.
Marley Read and
Zachary Shaw tied for ninth with totals of 226. Shaw carded a one-under 71 after a 79 to start and Read opened with a 71 before a 79 in the second. Both players signed for a score of 76 on Tuesday.
Noah Davis and
Nick Zarillo rounded out the lineup tying for 16
th with totals of 231. Davis bounced back with rounds of 74 and 75 after an 82 to start and Zarillo carded a 78 and a 73 on Monday with an 80 on Tuesday.
The Fire return to action next Monday at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.
