Kalaydjiev Wins Sun Conference Player of the Year

Bekki Kalaydjiev, after two years of not being able to play due to injury, has returned to the Fire and turned in a season to remember and claimed the honor of being The Sun Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

    Within this season, Kalaydjiev has only scored less than ten points three times. She averaged 27.5 over the last two games of the season, contributing to two clutch victories, helping to win the Sun Conference Women's Basketball regular title.

    Throughout the season Kalaydjiev led the Fire (20-7, 11-3 SUN) in scoring in 15 out of the 27 games and absolutely dominated in conference play being the highest scorer in ten out of the 14 games. She averaged 15.6 points per game, shot 49.5% from the field, dished out 106 assists, and recorded 66 steals. 

    In conference play Kalaydjiev averaged 17.6 points, shot 54.6 percent from the field and 43.6 percent from three, as well as assisting 3.6 times per game. Her percentages were first in conference and her scoring numbers were second in conference.

    Kalaydjiev and the Fire return to the Furnace tonight to avenge a late season loss to #4 St. Thomas Bobcats, the game tips off at 5 p.m.
