WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.--Southeastern went on a 12-point run to rally a late comeback attempt that fell just short Wednesday night, ending the game with a 78-76 loss.
After exiting the first half with a 37-36 lead where the Fire connected on 5-of-10 3-pointers, Southeastern struggled in the second half, giving Keiser a 17-point lead with 2:01 left on the clock.
A 3-pointer from
Sean Shore with 1:04 left sparked the Fire comeback that was aided by a pair of Keiser turnovers.
Reggie Mesidor hit a 3-pointer with 43 seconds left to get within eight, and steals
Montez Leath, and Shore led to five straight points by Shore to get the Fire within three at 78-75 with 15 seconds left.
With four seconds remaining and the Fire down by two after a made free throw by Shore, Mesidor stole the ball from Keiser to give the Fire a chance to win it. Unfortunately, a missed layup at the buzzer prevented them from completing the comeback.
The Fire were outmatched in the offensive rebound column, with the Seahawks finishing the night with 23 offensive rebounds leading to 18 second chance points to Southeastern's five offensive rebounds and five second chance points.
Mesidor was the scoring leader for the Fire, finishing the night with 22 points and six assists, connecting on 6/10 3-pointers. Shore was not far behind with 16 points hitting 3-of-5 of his 3-point attempts and had five rebounds and three assists.
Makkai Vassell had a team-best six rebounds.
The Fire will stay on the road to play Webber International University on Saturday.
