BROOKINGS, S.D.—For a moment, it looked like the defending national champions were going to be on the outside looking in by about a half of a second.
The men's 4x400 relay team was ninth after the prelims with the top eight advancing but after a disqualification, the Fire moved into the final qualifying spot for Saturday's final.
Joseph Taylor,
James Williamson III, Cameron Guadiano, and
Davien Worrels posted a 3:14.71 to earn All-America honors. They will run the final event of the weekend on Saturday .
The Fire had three other teams take the track during the first day of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
In the women's 4x800, Southeastern was 13
th with
Jillian Blaser,
Brianna Sheppard,
Grace Feder, and
Natalie Rohm posting a time of 9:24.43. The women's Distance Medley Relay was 11
th overall in a time of 12:32 with
Grace Feder, Irmiris, Mendez, Rohm, and
Sarah Foreman on the team.
The women's 4x400 Relay team posted its best time of the season and was just on the outside of the Top 8 but was disqualified due to a lane line violation.
Friday's day of competition starts at noon with the Race Walks.
