Fourth-ranked Southeastern paid the #1 Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies a visit this afternoon in hopes of bringing a rare loss to the Grizzlies.
Georgia Gwinnett had other plans overpowering the Fire, sweeping the scoreboard and winning every match and taking the contest 4-0, although some games were closely contested.
In the doubles matches,
Martina Picardi and
Simone Simas fell to Stephanie Fernandez and Iryna Lysykh 6-1,
Ingrid Montserrat and
Flaminia Guidantoni took on Justine Lespes and Carol Mora and were defeated 6-0. The match between
Neleah Neiberline and
Irene Lopez versus Angel Carney and Versace Gatti went unfinished because of the results of the other two doubles matches.
In singles, Picardi took on #1 overall Justine Lespes and was defeated 6-0, 6-4. Lopez gave Mora a run for her money but was unable to complete the upset, falling 6-3, 6-3. Neiberline lost the first game to#9 Lysykh 6-0 and retired in the second set.
The matches between Guidantoni and Gatti, #32 Simas and #4 Jovic, and Montserrat and Fernandez went unfinished because of the results of the other singles matches. Guidantoni took the first set of her match by the count of 7-5.
Women's Tennis returns to action tomorrow afternoon to compete against Brenau University at 9 a.m., and later in the day against Cumberlands University (Tenn.) at 1:30 p.m.
