NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Track and field competes among top competition this weekend at the Music City Indoor Challenge, facing NCAA division I competitors.
On the men's side, Davien Worrels placed second in the men's 200 meter dash, running a time of 21.42, a NAIA "A" Standard time and the 10th fastest in the NAIA. James Williamson III finished just behind with a time of 21.44, followed by Cameron Alamia, running a time of 21.50.
Joseph Taylor also placed in the top ten with a ninth place finish in the 200 Meters at 21.68 seconds, a NAIA "B" Standard time. Taylor also had a fourth-place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.86, a NAIA "A" Standard and the eighth fastest in the NAIA.
Alamia qualified for the 60 meter finals with a time of 6.97.
Kyle Manuel placed ninth in the men's shot put invite flight against top professional and division 1 competitors, throwing a mark of 15.78 meters.
The men's 4x400 meter relay ran a NAIA "A" Standard of 3:14.46. The team included Taylor, Williamson III, Cameron Guadinao, and Worrels.
For the women, Irmiris Mendez qualified for the 60 meter hurdles, running a NAIA "A" Standard time of 8.72 in the qualifying round.
Freshman Ar'Briel Scott ran a NAIA "B" Standard of 8.91
The women's 4x400 relay team placed 15th among the competitors with a NAIA "A" Standard, running a time of 3:54.92 and featuring Scott, Mendez, Chelsee Martino, and Oluwafikayomi Lawrence.
The Fire will be back in action next week as they compete in the Sun Conference Indoor Championship in Gainesville.
