Men's Basketball Set to Face the Seahawks and Warriors at Home This Week

A strong second half effort was not enough for the Fire as they dropped their Sun Conference opening contest to Ave Maria 101-93 this past Saturday, falling to 8-6 on the season. Southeastern found themselves down 19 in the first half and rallied furiously, even bringing it to within two in the second half. A couple of late threes and final minute free throw perfection secured a victory for the Gyrenes.

Makai Vassell had a 25-point outing against the Gyrenes, accompanied by Derek Murphy, Anthony Duncan and Reggie Mesidor who all had double digit showings. Junior forward Amir Brikat had 11 total rebounds.

This season the Fire have played strong on both sides of the court, holding teams to 70.9 points per game and putting up 74.9 points per game.                Keiser proved to be too strong for Webber in their Sun Conference opener, rallying from an 18-point first half deficit to defeat the Warrior's 86-81. The Seahawks had a balanced attack on offense with five players in double digits, most notably, freshman guard Calvin Sirmans who scored 18 points.

The Seahawks boast a 10-3 record, this record is brought to light by a high-powered offense that is putting up over 80 points per game. Shooting 43% from the field while also out rebounding teams by nearly 10 boards per game.

The offensive attack is led by Vincent Miszkiewicz and Justin Nicholson who are both averaging 16 points per matchup, while three others put up 10 plus per game. Miszkiewicz also leads the team with 215 total rebounds, 78 of them being offensive.

The Webber Warriors enter the Saturday matchup after losing their first Sun Conference Match to Keiser. As a team they shot 50% in that contest going 28-56 from the field. Their offense is led by senior guard Tyrone Nesby IV who is averaging a colossal 23.6 points per game. He is followed closely by guards Eden Holt and K'Shun Stokes who are scoring 18.8 and 17.3 points per matchup.
