LAKELAND, Fla. - The Fire men's soccer team opened up the season with two big wins, highlighted by
Gianluca Contegno, who earned the title of Sun Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
The Fire began the 2023 season with an offensive 5-2 victory over Point Park University, coming back from an early 1-0 deficit, two goals coming from Contegno.
Two days later, it was the defense's time to shine, as they shut out former conference opponent Thomas University, winning the match 1-0.
The Fire will look to keep the winning streak alive and bounce back from last year's loss against Georgia Gwinnett College. The Grizzlies will look to rely on returner Emanuele Sordi on offense, currently leading the team with four goals in four games, as well as Freshman Joshue Orue, who has two goals on the season.
The #8 ranked Grizzlies hold a 2-2-1 record, and will face off against the Fire in Lakeland on September 7th.
