MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Southeastern men's soccer picked up another important Sun Conference victory on Saturday night, defeating Florida Memorial, 2-1, at Orange Bowl Field.
The Fire struck first in the 25th minute when Thomas Hardouin found the back of the net to give Southeastern a 1-0 advantage. Hardouin's fourth goal of the season came after the Florida Memorial goalkeeper made the initial stop, with Hardouin capitalizing on the rebound to put the Fire in front. Filipe Santana was credited with the assist on the opening goal.
Florida Memorial went down to ten men just before the break on a direct red card received by Santiago Medina. The Lions responded early in the second half, with Frank Sanchez scoring just 52 seconds after the halftime break to level the match at 1-1.
SEU continued to apply pressure with the man-advantage, eventually reclaiming the lead in the 79th minute. Ricardo Agote Perez delivered the game-winning goal in impressive fashion, sending a cross into the six-yard box that hit the turf and found its way into the back of the net to put the Fire ahead, 2-1.
The Fire's defense held firm over the final 11 minutes, limiting Florida Memorial to just one shot on goal after Perez's go-ahead goal. Noah Murray-Hawkins made one save in the match, including a stellar stop in the final minutes, to help preserve the Southeastern victory.
Southeastern controlled much of the offensive action, finishing with a 12-2 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Fire also earned six corner kicks compared to two for the Lions.
Hardouin finished with two shots, including one on target, while Tomas Gomes recorded two shots on goal. Perez's goal was his first of the season, while Hardouin moved to a team-high four goals on the year.
With the victory, Southeastern improves to 8-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in Sun Conference play, continuing its strong start to conference competition.
