GULF SHORES, Ala.—Southeastern was just one point away from playing for The Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Championship over the weekend, dropping a 3-2 match to Ave Maria in the semifinal round.
The Fire started the weekend with a 3-2 win over William Carey, getting three-set wins from pairs three and four by
Ryanne VanWyk and
Kennedy Jones along with
Emily Eurice and
Chloe Rhodes.
Emilia Harding and
Holly Kaczmarek were 21-14, 21-9 winners at pair five to round out the match.
A 3-1 loss to Webber International in the quarterfinal sent the Fire to a must-win game against Mobile with the winner advancing to the semifinal round.
Jones and VanWyk were again a three-set winner, taking the final set 16-14 at line three.
Katie Chillura and
Sylvia Liszewski picked up a 21-15, 21-19 win at pair two and
Holly Kaczmarek and
Emilia Harding were a 21-11, 21-14 winner at pair five to send the Fire to the semis.
Alexandra Postlethwaite and
Grace Petty picked up their first win of the tournament at line one, taking the second and third sets 22-20, 15-8. Kaczmarek and Harding picked up the other point for the Fire at pair five.
Kaczmarek and Harding were a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.
The Fire will participate in the AVCA Small College Nationals at Hickory Point this weekend.
