LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern recorded just nine hits but still recorded 17 runs to come away with a 17-4 win over Florida National on Wednesday night.
The Fire drew 15 walks and three hit by pitches to generate baserunners.
Isaac Nunez picked up his 10
th homer of the game in the first to get the Fire started.
David Castillo hit a two-run homer in the second to push the lead to three and was followed by an RBI double by
Nicholas Block and an RBI single up the middle by Nunez to push the lead to five.
Pablo Lanzarote's check swing double down the right field line scored
Josh Pigozzo to put the Fire up 6-0.
Florida National (11-13) answered in the fourth with a three-run homer to cut the deficit in half.
Southeastern responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning with eight runs on three hits to put the game away. The Fire loaded the bases on two walks and a hit by pitch and
Gary Lora brought home two with a double off the left field wall. A walk loaded the bases for Castillo who hit his second homer of the game, a grand slam to give the Fire a 12-3 lead.
The Fire faced four different pitchers in the fourth, sending 13 hitters to the plate.
Michael Haydak added a sacrifice fly and
Stephen Cullen had an RBI single to make it 14-3 after four.
The Conquistadors added a solo homer in the sixth, which the Fire answered with three in the bottom of the inning when Castillo was intentionally walked with the bases loaded, and
Jose Marcano singled to shortstop, scoring Cullen and Lora who pirouetted around a tag at home plate.
Castillo was 2-for-2 with two home runs, two runs scored, seven RBIs, and was intentionally walked three times. Nunez added two RBIs on two hits.
Juan Pimentel picked up his fourth win of the season, working a scoreless first inning during the staff day.
John Jones struck out all three he faced in the third.
Jay Schueler rebounded from a home run to fan the next three he saw, and
Hayden Brock struck out the first two he faced in the seventh with the last out coming on a slow roller that Nunez barehanded and slung to first just in time.
The Fire will return to action on Friday to start a Sun Conference series with Keiser at 3 p.m.
