BRUNSWICK, Ga.- Southeastern men's tennis secured their spot in tomorrow's Sun Conference Tournament final with a 4-2 win over SCAD-Savannah.
Using the momentum of an upset win over Ave Maria University in the quarterfinals, the Bees put themselves ahead of the No. 6 ranked Fire after taking two of the three doubles matches.
Enrique Martinez and
Guido Luna moved to 11-4 in doubles play after taking the line three match by a dominating score of 6-1.
The Bees then worked from behind after
Christian Garay and
Diego Menendez dropped the line one doubles match by a score of 6-2.
Federico Barbon and
Victor Olivera dropped the line two doubles match by a score of 6-3, securing the doubles point for the Bees.
In singles play, Garay moved his record to 16-3 on the season after a 6-4 and 6-2 line one victory to tie the contest at one.
The Bees then took the 2-1 edge after taking line two with a Danil Ozernoy win over Menendez by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
At line four, Barbon once again tied the contest for the Fire, taking set one 6-1 and set two 6-2, moving his singles record to 15-3.
Luna would give his team the 3-2 lead with a line five win (6-1, 6-1) while a line six win by Martinez (6-2, 6-2) secured the Fire's spot in the finals.
Southeastern will face off against the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA tomorrow, Keiser University, at 1:30 p.m. for a chance to earn their first Sun Conference Championship in program history.
