Men’s Tennis Within a Point of Top-Ranked Seahawks

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern gave the No. 1 Seahawks of Keiser all they could handle on Saturday, coming up just short in a 4-3 match.

Georgia Gwinnett is the only other NAIA team to win three points against Keiser this season.

It also marks the first point for the Fire against Keiser since the 2015 season.

Two of the three doubles matches went to the Seahawks with the Fire getting a 6-4 win at the second flight by Victor Olivera and Federico Barbon over tenth-ranked Yassir Kilani and Soufiane El Mesbahi.

Barbon tied the match at one with a 6-3, 6-2 win at Line 4 Singles, but Keiser quickly regained the lead with a win at Line 3, then clinched the match with wins at Lines 5 and 6.

The Fire wouldn't give up, grinding out a win at the top singles flight with Christian Garay winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. Diego Menendez scored a three-set victory over fifth-ranked Shaeed Alam 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

Southeastern will host St. Olaf for a non-conference match on Tuesday at noon.
