LAKELAND, Fla.—Five more games are on the way this week for the 16-0 Southeastern University baseball team.
Southeastern will play just their fifth game away from Ted A. Broer Stadium on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. first pitch in Jacksonville against Edward Waters. The Fire will then host Iowa Wesleyan for a four-game series Friday and Saturday to kickoff a 14-game homestand.
Last week, the Fire went 4-0 with a 10-5 win in a non-conference game against Ave Maria then swept a doubleheader with Point Park before closing out the week with a 9-0 win over Judson. The Fire have had 10+ hits in nine of their 16 games this season. Only twice this season has the pitching staff failed to strikeout at least 10 batters
Isaac Nunez has posted an OPS of 1.253 this season and
Chayce Bryant has posted a 1.573 in the same metric. Nunez had seven hits in four games last week with five RBIs. Bryant added eight hits and five RBIs.
Pablo Lanzarote was 4-for-9 with a pair of home runs and seven RBIs.
Robb Adams was The Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week after striking out 13 over six innings on Saturday. As a staff, the Fire posted a 1.41 team ERA last week with 57 strikeouts in 32 innings.
Edward Waters is 8-5 on the season after dropping two of three over the weekend to Kentucky State. As a team, the Tigers have a .275 team batting average and a .386 team slugging percentage. The pitching staff has struck out 121 over 112.1 innings with a 4.73 ERA.
This will be the 32
nd meeting between the Fire and the Tigers with Southeastern having won the last 23. Southeastern swept the doubleheader in 2021 by the scores of 7-1 and 7-0.
The Fire will host Iowa Wesleyan for the first time in program history for a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend. The Wolves sit at 3-7 on the season after losing three games over the weekend at Kansas Wesleyan. Julian Figueroa and David Amaya lead the team with 11 and 10 hits this season, respectively.
