LEWISTON, Idaho — Fifth-seeded Southeastern continued its offensive surge Wednesday afternoon at Harris Field, rolling past Indiana Southeast 16-4 to advance to the winner's bracket final at the Avista NAIA Baseball World Series.
The Fire (45-16) remain unbeaten in Lewiston and will now face 10th-seeded William Carey tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET in a matchup between the tournament's final two unbeaten teams.
Indiana Southeast struck first in the opening inning when Bryson Arnette connected on a two-run homer to left-center, giving the Grenadiers an early 2-0 lead. Southeastern was held scoreless through the first three innings before finally breaking through in the fourth.
Cade Parry opened the inning with a single before
Cooper Ciesielski followed with another base hit.
Charlie Collins then dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position, and a passed ball later brought home the Fire's first run.
Cort Pryor followed with an RBI double to center field to tie the game at 2-2.
The double from Pryor was one of five by Southeastern in the game, tying the program's World Series record for doubles in a contest and matching the mark for the first time since 2021.
Indiana Southeast briefly reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth after an SEU error allowed an unearned run to score, but Southeastern answered immediately in the fifth inning.
Nathanial Hopkins drew a leadoff walk before
Armani Cozza reached on an error, setting up a two-run single from
Jace Essig that pushed the Fire back in front 4-3.
Southeastern then broke the game open with an eight-run sixth inning.
Collins started the frame with a double before Hopkins launched a three-run homer to right field, extending the lead to 8-3. Later in the inning, Collins added a three-run homer to center as the Fire sent 12 batters to the plate and surged ahead 12-3.
The offensive explosion marked the first time in program history Southeastern has scored 10 or more runs in consecutive World Series games.
The Fire continued to add on in the eighth inning as Ciesielski opened the frame with a solo homer before
Dayne Wimberly delivered a pinch-hit double.
Braden Bartholomae later added an RBI single, and Cozza capped the scoring with a two-run single to left-center.
Southeastern finished with 18 hits, including eight extra-base hits — five doubles and three home runs — the second-most extra-base hits by the Fire in a World Series game. The 16 runs also tied for the second-highest scoring output by SEU in program World Series history.
Hopkins led the offense by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while Collins finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and three RBIs. Essig collected three hits and drove in two runs, while Ciesielski added two hits and a homer. Parry and Pryor each recorded two-hit performances in the victory.
On the mound,
Blake Albritton delivered another strong postseason outing, tossing all eight innings while allowing four runs — three earned — on six hits with six strikeouts to improve to 7-2 on the season.
