AVE MARIA, Fla.—Southeastern won the Gyrene Invitational by 18 shots for the first tournament win of the season.
Most of the advantage came from Tuesday's final round when the Fire posted a team score of 303, 15 shots better than runner-up St. Thomas. Southeastern carded team scores of 303 and 299 in the first two rounds on Monday.
Marlie Smit tied for first on the individual leaderboard, highlighted by a two-under round of 70 in the second round with three birdies. The junior opened the tournament with a 75 and finished with a 74.
Maria Stephens also tied for third, carding a 76 in all three rounds.
Madelyn Campbell tied for third with rounds of 76, 79, and 73.
Alejandra Cuellar was fifth with a pair of 76s on Monday which included an eagle on the Par 4, 296-yard fourth hole, and closed with an 80 on Tuesday.
Abigail McNeil was ninth with scores of 85, 77, and 81.
The Fire will host its fall invitational October 30
th at Grasslands.
