JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Sadaly Campbell represented the Fire well at Jacksonville Country Club this week. The NAIA All-American sophomore shot 73-71-73 over 54 holes for a total of 217 (+1) to win the First Coast Women's Amateur.
"I was most happy with my ball striking and approach shots," Campbell said. "Everything felt good. My driver gave me a lot of confidence, and my short game was solid. I was able to make some really important up-and-downs, and my approach shots gave me great birdie opportunities."
The momentum shift came on the 14th hole. Campbell overshot her eagle chip, leaving a 20-foot downhill birdie putt. "I knew my opponent was going to make her eagle putt, so it was a must-make birdie for me." She sank the clutch birdie putt, but followed that up by hitting her next drive left into some trees that blocked her shot at the pin and most of the green. "I hit a great drawing hybrid and left myself a 10-foot putt, which I ended up two-putting for par."
Campbell would see out the final three holes to win the tournament.
