YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Southeastern women's golf team closed out its season Friday with an eighth-place finish at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
The Fire posted a final-round 325 to finish the 54-hole championship at 73-over par with a team score of 937. SCAD Savannah claimed the national championship at 55-over par, edging Dalton State by a single stroke.
Individually, Makena Junkin of Texas Wesleyan captured the national title at 4-over par with a three-round total of 220. Jia Kataria finished runner-up at 5-over par with a 221.
Southeastern concluded the week among the tournament leaders statistically, finishing tied for seventh in par-4 scoring at 4.43 while ranking eighth overall with 144 total pars across the three rounds.
Sadaly Campbell led the Fire throughout the championship and finished tied for 15th individually at 15-over par after rounds of 75, 75, and 81. Campbell closed the week second in the entire field with 39 total pars and opened Friday's round with seven consecutive pars from holes 2 through 9 while shooting 38 on the front side.
Abbey Peterson tied for 36th overall at 20-over par following an 82 in the final round. Peterson finished her tournament on a strong note with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 after also birdieing No. 7 earlier in the day.
Emma Tobias delivered Southeastern's best round of the final day, carding a 6-over-par 78 to finish tied for 42nd overall. Tobias recorded birdies on Nos. 7, 10, and 16 on Friday and finished the championship tied for sixth in the field with seven total birdies.
Alejandra Cuellar concluded the tournament tied for 51st at 24-over par after shooting 84 in the final round. Cuellar added a birdie on No. 6 during Friday's play after posting Southeastern's low round of the tournament with a 73 in Thursday's second round.
Savannah Thessing finished 77th overall at 31-over par to round out the Fire lineup.
The eighth-place national finish caps another strong season for Southeastern, which spent much of the championship in contention near the top of the leaderboard.
