LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern went 2-0, cruising over its in-state rivals St. Thomas and Keiser.
The Fire recorded four technical falls, four pins, and two forfeits in 20 matches to knock off St. Thomas 37-6 and Keiser 40-6.
Michael Shannon came away with a thrilling win at 149 against St. Thomas, getting a third period takedown late to take a 4-2 lead after giving up an escape at the start of the period. Christian Espinosa scored a reversal right at the buzzer to force sudden victory where Shannon came away with a takedown for the win.
The Fire closed the match with first period falls at 184 by
Christian Just, 197 by
Tristan Middlebrook, and 285 by
Gage Braun.
Isaac Crowell and
Chris Kelly got the Fire off to a 12-3 lead with pins at 125 and 141, respectively. Shannon finished the day 2-0, getting an escape in the third period after a locked hands call against James Berline for a 2-1 win.
Karter Johnson scored a 16-0 technical fall in his first match at The Fire Pit at 174, and Just finished 2-0 with a 7-2 decision over Jared Tracey.
The Fire will return to action next week at the Missouri Valley Invitational.
