Martinez’s Tiebreaker Sends Men’s Tennis to Round of 16

MOBILE, Ala.—Southeastern overcame a 3-1 deficit to advance to the Round of 16 at the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship for the first time in program history.
 
The Fire picked up wins at the Nos. 3, 6, and 5 spots in the singles lineup to knock off No. 20 Reinhard 4-3 to advance to tomorrow's second round match against No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan.
 
Federico Barbon started the comeback with a 6-3, 6-3 win at Line 3. Theo Prieswerk dropped the first set of his No. 6 match 6-3, but won the second and third sets by the same score.
 
At Line 5, Enrique Martinez forced a third set with a 6-4 win in the second after dropping the first 6-3. He trailed the third 5-0, but rallied back to take a 6-5 lead. Said Santin forced a tiebreaker by taking the next game. Martinez cruised in the tiebreaker to a 7-1 win to clinch the match and pick up his third singles win of the season.
 
The Fire will be back on the courts Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Eastern.
