Pitching Staff Dominates in Sweep of No. 7 Bobcats

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 1 ranked Southeastern University Fire took two games from the No. 7 ranked St. Thomas University today by scores of 8-0 and 3-1 to advance to 36-1 and 13-0 in Sun Conference play.
 
In game one, the Fire outhit the Bobcats 15-5 behind a stellar pitching performance by Robb Adams who went a complete nine innings with 12 strikeouts to record the shutout.
 
The Fire scoring started in the second when Sam Faith came home after a wild pitch with Brian Fuentes continuing the scoring in the third with a solo home run to push the lead to 2-0. Luis Cabrera then followed it up with a two RBI double to push the lead to four.
 
Gary Lora grabbed the fifth Fire run after a sacrifice fly scored Isaac Nunez in the fifth.
 
A Bobcat error and two RBI home run by Sam Faith claimed the 8-0 game one victory.
 
Faith ended game one a perfect 4-4 with two RBI's and three runs scored with Thomas Broyles and Nunez each collecting three hits.
 
Game two saw the second complete game by the Fire staff as Drew Gillespie threw upwards of 120 pitches and gave up only one earned run off of a leadoff solo home run while matching Adam's 12 strikeouts.
 
Abdel Guadalupe led his team to the victory after going 3-4 with two RBI's, one coming off of a solo home run in the fifth and RBI double in the seventh.
 
Gillespie advanced to 7-0 on the season with the victory.
 
The series finale will take place tomorrow at 12 p.m. as the Fire look to secure the series sweep.
