Fire Fend Off Fighting Saints on Rainy Day

| Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 1 Southeastern University Fire baseball team defeated the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Saints for the second-straight house by a score of 11-6 to improve to 26-0 on the season.

The Fire took on the Fighting Saints after Southeastern's first scheduled contest of the day versus Calumet College of St. Joseph was rained out with the Fire leading 5-3 in the bottom of the third.

Versus USF, SEU plated four runs in the first two innings to grow an early 4-0 advantage. A string of four consecutive hits by the Fire in the bottom of the second led to SEU driving in three of those four runs.

SEU graduate right-handed pitcher Logan Walters turned in his most dominant outing of the season on the mound in his second start of the season. After striking out five through three scoreless frames to start the game, the University of Memphis transfer struck out the side in the top of the fourth.

Walters concluded the day with 14 strikeouts over six innings pitched, conceding one earned run on four hits and walking just one in the winning decision.

Southeastern opened up a 10-1 lead over St. Francis in the bottom of the sixth with six runs on three hits. Junior infielder Isaac Nunez highlighted the big inning with his sixth home run of the season, a three-run laser over the right field wall. Nunez finished the day 3-4 with four runs batted in.

The Fire are back in action tomorrow afternoon, as SEU hosts the Indiana Tech Warriors for a single-game at 3:00 p.m.
