LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern is off to its best start in program history with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana Tech on Sunday.
The Fire took the first game 6-2 and the second game 6-0 to improve to 23-0 on the season.
A two-homer game by
Abdel Guadalupe helped SEU take the nine-inning first game, picking up a two-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the eighth, going back-to-back with
Thomas Broyles who had a two-run blast in the prior at bat.
Guadalupe had four of Southeastern's 11 hits in the game, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Luis Cabrera hit a solo homer in the sixth to help the Fire take a 3-1 lead. An RBI single by Indiana Tech in the top of the eighth to get the Warriors within a run again at 3-2.
Drew Gillespie improved to 4-0 on the mound, striking out 13 batters in 7.1 innings of work. The senior allowed one earned run on five hits and walked two.
Alex Munroe picked up his second save of the season with four strikeouts of the six batters he faced the balance of the game.
Robb Adams went all seven innings in the second game with 14 strikeouts. The junior allowed just three hits and one walk on 83 pitches. Adams is now 6-0 on the season with a 0.24 ERA.
Guadalupe continued to produce at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. A
Gary Lora double brought Guadalupe around in the first, then Lora and
Sam Faith scored on a hot shot to shortstop by
Stephen Cullen to give the Fire a 3-0 lead after an inning.
Brian Fuentes drove in Faith and Guadalupe in the fifth with a single to right center, and Lora added another RBI with a double to right. Broyles drove in the final run in the game in the fifth with an RBI fielder's choice.
Lora finished 2-for-3.
The Fire and Warriors will close out their three-game series tomorrow at noon.
