Baseball Blazes Past Warner in Doubleheader Sweep

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 1 Southeastern University Fire baseball team brought the No. 18 Warner University Royals' NAIA-best win streak to a screeching halt Friday evening, sweeping the first two games of a Sun Conference weekend series by scores of 14-5 in game one and 14-0 in the second contest.

The Fire scored 28 runs on 28 hits between the two contests.

GAME ONE:

The Royals struck first in the top of the first with a pair of runs. The Fire answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, including two off a two-RBI single by Thomas Broyles to take a 3-2 lead after one.

Warner responded with three more runs in the top of the second to regain the advantage 5-2.  SEU retook the lead for good in the bottom of the third on a two-RBI double to right-center by senior outfielder Abdel Guadalupe to go ahead 7-5.

SEU then busted things open in the bottom of the fourth with four runs, with three driven in via RBI-doubles by Gary Lora, Sam Faith, and Clayton Keyes.

Broyles pushed his RBI-total to a team-best three with another RBI single in the top of the seventh that grew the Fire lead to 14-5.

Senior right-handed pitcher DJ Roberts was electric in relief for the Fire, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings where he allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out four. Roberts earned the winning decision to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Graduate southpaw reliever Bryce Moyle continue to lock it down for SEU on the mound, closing out the final three frames with just two hits conceded and no runs while striking out six.

GAME TWO:

The Fire came out and blitzed the Royals pitching staff for 10 runs in the first two innings.

SEU junior shortstop launched his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the first to get the Fire off to a 1-0 lead. Nunez went 3-4 in the two-hole in the second contest.

Brian Fuentes 3-4 at the plate with four RBIs, including three driven in on a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth which was his team-best 12th of the season.

Southeastern junior left-handed pitcher Robb Adams earned the staff day win with two scoreless innings to improve to 8-0 on the year.

Junior righty Damien Torres tossed three scoreless in the middle innings, striking out three. Graduate reliever Eston Stull closed out the contest with two scoreless frames, striking out two of the six batters he faced.
