Adams Turns Up the Heat in Series Finale, as Fire Sweep Royals

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 1 Southeastern University Fire baseball team cemented the Sun Conference series sweep of the No. 18 Warner University Royals with a 6-1 victory in the series finale on Saturday afternoon.

SEU junior left-handed pitcher Robb Adams was electric on the mound, tossing eight innings strong where he conceded just his second earned run of the season while walking just one and striking out six. Adams earned his second win in as many days versus Warner to improve to 9-0 on the season.

An RBI-single off the bat of graduate infielder Brian Fuentes brought Isaac Nunez home in the bottom of the first for the Fire to put them on top of the Royals 1-0. Warner answered with a run in the top of the second to even things up 1-1.

Southeastern regained the lead in the bottom of the third via an RBI-double to left field that scored Abdel Guadalupe. Nunez finished the game 3-4 at the plate with three runs scored. Fuentes extended the SEU advantage to 3-1 later in the inning with his second RBI-single of the day, a base knock to right field that brought Nunez across.

Junior designated hitter Gary Lora logged an RBI-double in the bottom of the sixth to bring Adrian Mella home and make it a 4-1 Fire lead over the Royals. The Fire tacked on two more via errors in the later innings for extra insurance.

Fire graduate right-handed pitcher Logan Walters closed out the game with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth, striking out two of the three he faced.

SEU is back in action next Wednesday in a highly-anticipated Spring Training exhibition versus the Major League Baseball Detroit Tigers. First pitch on Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
