Fire Baseball Cruises Past Conquistadors

LAKELAND, Fla.- On a day where the Fire plated 37 runs on 35 hits, the No. 3 Southeastern University Fire baseball team rocketed past the Florida National University Conquistadors in a Tuesday evening non-conference doubleheader. SEU took game one 16-4 before blanking FNU 21-0 in the second contest.
 
GAME ONE:
After the game was scoreless through the first two innings of play, the Fire erupted for 12 runs on 10 hits in the bottom of the third to open the game up.
 
Abdel Guadalupe was a perfect 3-3 with two runs batted in from the leadoff position. Brian Fuentes was 2-3 with five runs batted in, four of which came on a grand slam homer in the bottom of the third.
 
Four of the six pitchers who took the mound in game one recorded multiple strikeouts.
 
David Mata earned his first win of the season after tossing a scoreless top of the third, striking out two of the four he faced.
 
GAME TWO:
 
Seven different Fire hitters had multi-hit games for SEU. After leading 7-0 through two innings of play, Southeastern used an 11-run bottom of the fourth to open up the contest 18-0.
 
Adrian Mella was 3-4 with three runs batted in, while Isaac Nunez was 2-3 with two RBIs and three stolen bases.
 
The SEU pitching staff was dominant in game two, racking up 17 strikeouts as a unit, while conceding just two hits and no walks in seven innings tossed. The Fire arms had a stretch of 11-straight Conquistadors struck out from the top of the first through the top of the sixth.
 
Logan Walters earned his first win of the season, striking out five of the seven he faced over two scoreless innings to start the game.
 
Up next, the Fire are scheduled to host the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles for a 3:00/5:30 p.m. doubleheader next Tuesday.
