Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.- The NAIA RV Southeastern University women's tennis team competed with the NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish in their 2022 season opener on Thursday afternoon. While there were many back-and-forth matches between SEU and PBA, ultimately, the Fire fell to the Sailfish 5-2.
The Fire faced an early 1-0 deficit after dropping all three lines of doubles' play.
Southeastern impressed at the top two lines of singles' action. At the top line, freshman
Martina Picardi took a two-set victory over Elviva Edstrom (6-3,6-4). At line two, junior
Beatrice Letizia defeated Verena Weindl in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
Both
Irene Lopez (3-6, 6-4, 3-6) and Priscila Baptiste (6-7, 6-3, 3-6) dropped intense three-set matches at lines four and five respectively.
The Fire open Sun Conference play on Saturday at the NAIA No. 18 Ave Maria University Gyrenes. Match time at the AMU Tennis Courts is set for 2:00 p.m.
