Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The NAIA No. 18 Southeastern University Fire men's tennis team faced stiff competition in its season opener, falling on the road to the NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish 6-1 Thursday afternoon.
The Fire competed in the doubles' point taking the top line with a 6-2 victory by
Roy Stepanov and
Federico Barbon. However, SEU fell at lines two and three to ultimately drop the doubles' point.
Stepanov went 2-0 in his matches on the day, earning a three-set tiebreak victory at the top line over Umberto Rosi. After taking set one 7-5, Stepanov fell in the second set 6-3. Roy bounced back in the third-set tiebreaker 12-10 to take the match.
Both
Diego Menendez (2-6, 6-4, 8-10) and
Theodor Preiswerk (2-6, 6-4, 8-10) dropped tough matches in third-set tiebreak at lines four and five respectively.
The Fire open Sun Conference play on the road Saturday versus the NAIA No. 21 Ave Maria University Gyrenes. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. at the AMU Tennis Courts.
