Baseball Drops First TSC Tourney Game to USCB

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The No. 2 Southeastern University baseball team dropped its first game of The 2021 Sun Conference Tournament to USCB on Thursday afternoon. The top-seeded Fire fell to the sixth-seeded Sand Sharks 10-6.

The Fire got out to an early 2-0 lead over the Sand Sharks thanks to an RBI-double by Colton Onstott in the bottom of the first, as well as an RBI-single by Carter Bridge in the bottom of the second.

USCB answered with a three-run inning in the top of the third to take their first lead of the contest 3-2. The Sand Sharks grew their advantage to 5-2 with one run each in the top of the fourth and fifth frames.

The SEU bats battled back in the bottom of the fifth. First, junior infielder Sam Faith belted his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot to left field on a 2-0 count to bring the Fire within 5-3. Later in the inning, senior infielder Pedro Castellano doubled one down the right field line that scored Nick Bottari and brought SEU within a run.

Senior Anthony Carrera capped off the big inning for SEU with a two-RBI single to right field that scored Castellano and Onstott and regained the lead for the Fire 6-5.

The lead was short-lived however, as USCB answered immediately with three runs in the top of the sixth to regain the advantage 9-6. A Sand Sharks' solo home run in the top of the eighth spread the gap to 10-6.

The game was delayed four four hours and 26 minutes in the top of the ninth with two outs due to inclement weather.

The Fire were able to get one aboard in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately could not get anything across. SEU left 10 runners on base throughout the contest.

Southeastern will play in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m., taking on the loser of second-seeded St. Thomas and fifth-seeded Warner.
