WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With their backs against the wall, the No. 2 Southeastern University baseball team withstood the pressure versus the No. 12 St. Thomas University Bobcats. The top-seeded Fire eliminated the second-seeded Bobcats from The Sun Conference Baseball Tournament by a final score of 11-0.
"Our guys actually came out and competed today," shared SEU head coach
Adrian Dinkel. "They played with a purpose. It was good to see some fight in them."
The Fire were fueled on the mound by a dazzling performance by senior right-handed pitcher
Christian Camacho, who tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout versus the Bobcats. Camacho only allowed one walk and although he only struck out four batters, got the benefit of 10 fly outs and 13 ground outs.
"Christian did a heck of a job," added Coach Dinkel. "He was dialed in from pitch one and that was in my 16 years, the best performance I've had in the postseason."
The Elk Grove Village, Ill. native turned in a stretch of 12-straight St. Thomas hitters retired from the bottom of the first till the bottom of the fifth. With the win, Camacho improved to 9-1 on the season.
Offensively, the Fire got to work early, plating their first run in the top of the first on an RBI grounder from
Colton Onstott.
The SEU bats exploded for six runs on six hits in the top of the second to open up the contest 7-0. RBI-singles by
Sam Faith and Onstott got things started, while a three-run home run off the bat of
Pedro Castellano to right field capped off the big inning. The long ball was Castellano's 14th of the season.
Castellano finished the game 2-4 with four runs batted in. Onstott also had a four-RBI game, going a collective 3-4 at the plate and also coming around to score twice.
The Fire will tentatively face the loser of this evening's Keiser/Warner game tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in another TSC Tournament elimination game.Â
