Box Score 2 HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The No. 2 Southeastern University baseball team took the first two games of their three-game series against the USCB Sand Sharks with a 9-1 win in game one. They followed it up with a gutsy 8-6 victory in game two.
The Fire were powered by
Nick Bottari as the first baseman finished today with three home runs and six RBIs.
GAME ONE:
Bottari got the scoring started in the top of the first when he hit his first of three home runs today, this one over the left-field fence to give the Fire an early 1-0 lead. His second home run would come in the fifth inning that extended SEU's lead to 4-1.
After hitting a sac-fly in the seventh,
Anthony Carrera hit his tenth home run of the season in the ninth that ended up being the final runs SEU tallied in the first game of the series.
Jayden Hartle pitched three scoreless innings to open the game and was relieved by
Christian Camacho who finished the game. Camacho's final line included six innings of work, allowing five hits, three walks, and punched out seven batters.
Colton Onstott went 3-for-5 with an RBI and
Austin James was productive as well with two hits and two walks.
GAME TWO:
It was a back and forth battle in the second game of the doubleheader with three lead changes taking place between the two programs.
Thomas Broyles drove in two runs with a single with two outs in the first inning to give SEU a 2-0 lead. He finished the game 2-for-5 with those two RBIs.
After USCB took the lead in the fifth, the Fire scratched two more runs across the plate via sac-flies by Onstott and Bottari to make it a 5-5 game.
Defensive miscues by the Sand Sharks enabled Southeastern to take a 6-5 lead in the eighth. Another sac-fly by Onstott and Bottari's third home run of the day extended their lead to 8-5.
On the mound,
Ryan Munoz came out of the bullpen and delivered four strong innings. The lefty allowed just one run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The Fire (34-3, 12-2 TSC) will look to complete the sweep tomorrow at 12:00 pm.
