Baseball Slugs its Way to 40th Win of Season

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 2 Southeastern University baseball team swept Florida National in a doubleheader, improving to 40-6 on the season.

SEU hit eight home runs in the 25-4 win in game one, tied for the most runs they've scored in a game this season. The Fire tacked on 11 more runs in their 11-4 game two victory.

GAME ONE:

Southeastern scored in every inning in the shortened seven inning game, including six runs in the second, seven in the fourth, and six in the sixth.

Pedro Castellano hit a grand slam in the second and was followed by Nick Bottari hitting a two-run shot, his 19th of the season, setting a single-season program record for home runs.

"A lot of hard work has went into it so it was nice getting it out of the way, but at the end of the day it was a great day for Southeastern," said Bottari.

Bottari hit a grand slam of his own in the fourth inning to extend the Fire lead. Blake Buckman also hit two home runs, one of which was the Fire's third grand slam of the game in the sixth inning.

As a team, the Fire went 22-for-39 at the plate with eight walks and only four strikeouts.

GAME TWO:

A nine run second inning was all the Fire would need to win the second game of the day. Thomas Broyles hit a two-run double off the left-field fence to get the scoring started.

Austin James followed it up with a two-run homer that scored Broyles. Broyles picked up two more RBIs in the inning with a single that scored Anthony Carrera and Colton Onstott.

Luis Cabrera capped off the scoring in the sixth inning with a two-run blast to left field for SEU's tenth and 11th runs of the game.

Next up for the Fire is a three-game series at Ave Maria to wrap-up the regular season beginning Friday, April 30th.
