MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The No. 2 Southeastern University baseball team dropped both games of today's doubleheader against No. 18 St. Thomas, dropping to 38-6 and 16-5 in TSC play.
The Fire lost the first game 6-2 before late inning heroics by the Bobcats allowed them to take game two 10-8.
GAME ONE:
SEU struggled to put together consecutive hits in the first of two games today as mustered only two runs despite totaling nine hits. STU starting pitcher Christopher Coipel tossed 6.2 innings against the Fire and relied on his defense as he only struck out two Fire batters.
Nick Bottari and
Luis Cabrera tallied the only RBIs for Southeastern as Bottari singled home
Anthony Carrera in the sixth before Cabrera recorded a pinch-hit single that scored
Carter Bridge in the seventh. Bridge was the only SEU batter with a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-4.
Christian Camacho battled through seven innings in his 11
th start of the season, allowing those six runs while striking out three.
GAME TWO:
St. Thomas scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the series clinching win.
The Fire had the advantage throughout the majority of the game, scoring four runs in the second to go up 5-0, thanks to a two-run double and a two-run single by
Austin James and
Pedro Castellano.
After STU tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fifth,
Colton Onstott delivered a two-run single to give the Fire an 8-6 lead.
Castellano, Cabrera,
Sam Faith, and
Thomas Broyles all recorded multi-hit games while Bottari hit his 18
th home run of the season.
