LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University baseball team is set to resume Sun Conference action this week with a home weekend series against Webber International set to begin Friday at 6:00 pm with doubleheader on Saturday scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm.
The Fire continued their dominance last week, going 3-0 and winning by a combined score of 58-16 over RV Bellevue, Dordt College, and NCAA Division II Wayne State.
In the 14-4 win over RV Bellevue,
Sam Faith had a team-high four RBIs at the plate while
Drew Gillespie was dominant once again on the mound, striking out ten batters and allowing no runs over six innings pitched.
Against Dordt, the Fire tallied their most runs scored in a game this season in their 25-4 victory over the Defenders.
Anthony Carrera homered in his third straight game and combined for 14 RBIs with
Pedro Castellano,
Benito Varela,
Colton Onstott,
Luis Cabrera, and
Carter Bridge.
Faith and Castellano each recorded five RBIs in SEU's 19-8 win over Wayne State.
Nick Bottari and Varela each homered as well and put up a combined six RBIs.
Southeastern remains one of the top ranked teams at the plate and on the mound as they are ranked second in the NAIA in runs scored (276) and batters stuck out (272). The Fire are also one of the top defensive teams, sitting at eighth in the country with a fielding percentage of .970.
Individually, Bottari has been one of the top power threats in the NAIA with the second most home runs (11) while Castellano and Faith are fifth and sixth in RBIs with 36 and 35, respectively.
Gillespie and
Christian Camacho rank among the top pitchers in the NAIA as Gillespie is fourth among pitchers with a 0.51 ERA while Camacho is third with five wins and has struck out a team-high 50 batters.
Webber International enters this week with a 17-9 record and have gone 7-2 against TSC opponents. The Warriors had won eight straight before dropping their last two games to Wayne State. Webber currently ranks as one of the top pitching and defensive teams in the country as they have struck out fifth most batters (244) and have recorded the fourth most putouts (636). They are led offensively by Norberto Navarro and Rougie Odor who are hitting .366 and .340, respectively, entering play this week. Dominique Collie Jr. is the top run producer for the Warriors with a team-high 21 RBIs.
The Fire lead the all-time series with Webber International 29-25. Southeastern dropped their last matchup with Webber 5-3 that took place nearly two years ago on May 4
th, 2019.
