Baseball Rallies to Win 19-8 over Wayne State

LAKELAND, Fla—After trailing 6-0 after the first two innings to NCAA Division II Wayne State, the Southeastern University baseball team scored 17 unanswered runs on their way to a 19-8 win.

Pedro Castellano got the Fire right back into it in the bottom of the third with a grand slam that made it a 6-4 ballgame.

After SEU tied it at 6-6 when Nick Bottari walked with the bases loaded in the fourth, Benito Varela hit a three-run home run in the fifth to give the Fire their first lead of the day at 9-6. Southeastern added three more runs in the inning thanks to an RBI-single by Castellano, and a two-run double by Sam Faith.
Faith tallied three more RBIs in the sixth when he blasted a ball over the left-center field fence.

Castellano, Faith, Bottari, Varela, and Colton Onstott carried the load offensively as the combined to go 12-for-17 at the plate with four home runs and 18 RBIs.

Christian Camacho was the starter for SEU and rebounded well after struggling through the first two innings. He finished his outing by tossing four scoreless innings and striking out five batters to help the Fire come back and eventually take the lead.

Thomas Broyles continued to hit in the second spot of the Fire lineup, getting two hits and an RBI in four trips to the plate.

The Fire (24-1, 5-1 TSC) have a week to prepare for TSC opponent Webber International as they host the Warriors for a three-game set beginning on Friday, March 19th at 6:00 pm.
